Karkonosze Pass in Liga Ride

One of the hardest climbs in Poland, the hardest according to climbfinder: from Podgórzyn through Przesieka to the Karkonosze Pass on the Polish-Czech border, 1,198 m above sea level. Hairpins by the church, the gates of Karkonosze National Park, the Droga Sudecka road. A trainer with FTMS gets every gradient.

Course description

What's on the road

This isn't a race course but a climb that cyclists all over Poland talk about. You start in Podgórzyn, ride through Przesieka into the hairpins by the church, pass the Karkonosze National Park gates and take the Droga Sudecka road up to the pass on the Czech border. The finish is on the border.

Every percent of gradient is where it is on the tarmac. In Liga Ride the gradient goes to your trainer over FTMS: uphill it gets harder, and watts per kilogram decide your pace.

  • Podgórzyn → Przesieka → Karkonosze Pass, 1,198 m above sea level
  • 849 m of climbing in 23 km, finish on the Polish-Czech border
  • Hairpins by the church in Przesieka, the national park gates, Droga Sudecka
  • Mountain course: the rider's weight counts for real, W/kg decides

Questions

Questions about this course

How long and how steep is the climb?
The course is 23 km long with 849 m of climbing: from the start in Podgórzyn to the pass at 1,198 m above sea level. You can see the maximum gradient in the profile above; a trainer with FTMS reproduces it for real.
Does the trainer need resistance control?
For the full experience, yes: an FTMS trainer gets the gradient and gets harder. A trainer or power meter without FTMS will ride over Cycling Power, but you set the resistance by hand.
Does weight matter?
Yes, just like on a real mountain. Liga Ride physics calculates speed from power and the rider's weight plus 8 kg for the bike, so on the climb watts per kilogram decide.
