Course description
What's on the road
The start is at the mount line in Cukrownia Żnin: brick halls with a chimney, a round tank and the CUKROWNIA ŻNIN sign at the exit, and Enea Żnin Triathlon barriers along the whole course. Through the gate onto Janickiego, left onto Wilczkowska and along the shore of Lake Żnińskie Duże to the climb at 1.9 km into the lap: just under half a kilometre, 20 m up, over 4% on average, the steepest on the whole loop. From the fork on the plateau the road leads through Januszkowo and Maciejewo, and beyond them drops into a valley to the turnaround before Chomętowo at 9.3 km. On the way back comes the longest climb, 1.7 km to the highest point of the loop at 12.2 km, and then almost flat to the fork, where you turn sharp right into the branch to the turnaround before Wilczkowo at 18.1 km. Then the same road back to the lake, along Wilczkowska and Janickiego to the turnaround by the sugar factory.
What counts is geometry and physics: three turnarounds, a fork you pass three times and every metre of climbing are where they are on the real road, and the gradient goes to your trainer over FTMS. The short climb from the lake comes at the start of the lap, and watts per kilogram count on it, while the long, gentle climb from Chomętowo needs a steady pace. On the plateau between them, power and your position on the bike decide your speed.
- Start at the brick Cukrownia Żnin sugar factory, 22.4 km loop: 1/8 IM = 1 lap, 1/4 IM = 2, 1/2 IM = 4
- The climb from Lake Żnińskie Duże at 1.9 km: 455 m long, 4.3% on average, 6.5% at most
- Three turnarounds: before Chomętowo, before Wilczkowo and on Janickiego Street by the sugar factory
- 99 m of climbing per lap, from 81 to 112 m above sea level
