Calisia Triathlon in Liga Ride

The Calisia Triathlon bike loop, mapped from the organiser's track: start in the transition area behind the Aquapark in Kalisz, a 0.7 km lead-in along the aquapark hall and Sportowa Street over the Swędrnia onto Łódzka Street, then an out-and-back loop. Along Łódzka and Warszawska streets through the city, uphill through the Edward Wende roundabout, along the Szosa Turecka road through Pólko to Skarszew, down into the Swędrnia valley, over the bridge and through Rożdżały to a turnaround by the forest on Leśna Street. Back along the same road, and the lap ends with a turnaround at the palm tree on Łódzka Street. The loop is 21.6 km: one lap is 1/8 IM, two are 1/4 IM. Each lap has 122 m of climbing, from 111 m above sea level on Łódzka Street and at the Swędrnia bridge to 139 m on the Szosa Turecka road before Skarszew.

Course description

What's on the road

The start is in the transition area behind the Aquapark. The lead-in runs over cobbles along the hall of the Kalisz water park and along Sportowa Street over the Swędrnia onto Łódzka Street, where you turn around at the palm tree and begin the lap. You ride through the city on four-lane Łódzka Street, after 700 m turn right onto Warszawska Street and go straight uphill: through the Edward Wende roundabout, more than 20 m up in under a kilometre. Then regional road 470, the Szosa Turecka road, leads across the plateau through Pólko to the highest point of the loop at 5.4 km. From there the road drops to Skarszew, where you turn right, and on into the Swędrnia valley with the bridge at 8.4 km, the lowest point of the course. Right after the bridge comes the steepest climb: 20 m up in under 700 m, up to 6%. Through Rożdżały and along Leśna Street you reach the turnaround by the forest at 10.7 km. Back along the same road: a steep descent to the bridge, at Skarszew the climb along the Szosa Turecka road back onto the plateau, on to the Wende roundabout, down Warszawska Street into the city and the turnaround at the palm tree on Łódzka Street.

What counts is geometry and physics: both turnarounds, the Wende roundabout you take twice, the Swędrnia bridge and every percent of climbing are where they are on the real road, and the gradient goes to your trainer over FTMS. The loop is not flat: it has three climbs of about 20 m each, up Warszawska Street through the Wende roundabout, from the bridge to Rożdżały, and on the way back along the Szosa Turecka road after Skarszew. On them watts per kilogram count, and on the long stretches of the Szosa Turecka road, power and your position on the bike.

  • Start in the transition area behind the Aquapark, a 0.7 km lead-in and a 21.6 km loop: 1/8 IM = 1 lap, 1/4 IM = 2
  • Łódzka and Warszawska streets through the city, a climb through the Edward Wende roundabout and the Szosa Turecka road through Pólko
  • Steepest right after the Swędrnia bridge, up to 6%, with turnarounds by the forest on Leśna Street and at the palm tree on Łódzka Street
  • 122 m of climbing per lap, from 111 to 139 m above sea level

Questions

Questions about this course

How many laps is each distance?
The loop in Liga Ride is 21.6 km, and you ride it as many times as in the race: one lap is 1/8 IM, two are 1/4 IM. Before the first lap there is a 0.7 km lead-in from the transition area behind the Aquapark, and Liga Ride counts the laps automatically.
Why is there a palm tree on Łódzka Street?
It is the race's turnaround marker: at Calisia Triathlon you have to ride round the palm tree on Łódzka Street before the second lap. In Liga Ride it stands in the same place, in a pot. You turn around at it at the end of the lead-in and at the end of every lap, and the finish is just past it.
Is the course flat?
No. Each lap has 122 m of climbing, from 111 m above sea level on Łódzka Street and at the Swędrnia bridge to 139 m on the Szosa Turecka road before Skarszew. There are three climbs of about 20 m each: up Warszawska Street through the Wende roundabout, from the Swędrnia bridge to Rożdżały, the steepest at up to 6%, and on the way back along the Szosa Turecka road after Skarszew.
Which timed segments are on this course?
Five: the loop, three climbs and a sprint. The climbs are named after places on the course: Warszawska, through the Wende roundabout, Rożdżały, from the Swędrnia bridge, and Skarszew, on the Szosa Turecka road on the way back. The sprint is on the Szosa Turecka road before the Wende roundabout, flat and straight. Each segment has its own leaderboard in the game.
Can I run this course on a treadmill?
Yes. Every Liga Ride course is also a running course. Choose BIEGANIE, running, then on the sensors screen, CZUJNIKI, tap POŁĄCZ on the BIEŻNIA card and connect a Bluetooth treadmill, a sensor on the treadmill belt, a foot pod or a watch in Virtual Run mode. Then tap BIEGNIJ TERAZ, run now, and choose Calisia Triathlon. You run the same loop at your own pace, and you set the speed and incline on the treadmill.
Can I ride this course on my phone?
Yes. The course is available on Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android; on a phone the map downloads the first time you choose it. You need a Bluetooth smart trainer or power meter and a free Liga Triathlonu account.
